At the beginning of the 18th century, British merchants brought green tea from China to Northwest Africa for the first time. Two centuries later, the first seeds of Camellia sinensis were planted in Kenya. These events mark the cornerstones for a new and unique tea culture. This emerging culture has strongly benefitted from the steady growth of the tea trade and was quickly found throughout Africa.
