Let's Talk Tea
___________

With Tea-tender,
Alix

Tea is becoming a common ingredient in cocktails, what are your thoughts on the role of tea in mixology?

I think there’s something very special about the flavours being infused into the liquours themselves rather than as an added element. Infusing tea also gives a wonderful depth to the drinks even if the flavours are very subtle. Each tea has their own unique characteristics which are fun to play with and to enhance in the drinks.

What is your favourite tea infused cocktail?

The flutgraben fog! It’s very deceptive. It tastes like an iced tea, I think you can drink a lot of them without noticing!

Can you give our readers a bartender’s tip when preparing tea cocktails?

Prepare ahead! Obviously it takes a while for the tea to infuse into the vodka so think a day or 2 in advance. I like the tea to be really strong so you really taste it in the drink, so plan a day and a half to 2 days in advance before you decide you will make the drinks.

Thank you Alix for sharing your thoughts with us.
