Background Knowledge

The fruit of a master craftsman of a village that lines the Red River in Northern Vietnam, this pot is composed of kaolin found in the area. Such mineral rich clay gives hardness and durability and has been favored as a base material for porcelain for centuries in the north of Vietnam. The clay structure is able to withstand glazes at high temperatures of up to 1300 degrees, over nine hours of firing and nine hours of cooling, which guarantees a richness in tone and gloss. The resulting surface tone is admired as the very nature of the Art of Fire, which cannot be replicated in industrial processes.
